We read about his earnest desire in the Preface to the Rules for his Congregation.
“We must spare no effort to extend the Saviour’s empire and to destroy the dominion of hell. We must check the manifold evils of sin and establish the honoured observance of every virtue. We must lead men to act like human beings, first of all and then like Christians, and, finally, we must help them to become saints. “
HIS MISSION: TO BRING THE POOR TO CHRIST THE SAVIOUR
A further quote from the Preface to the Rules, outlines his mission “… to arouse sinners who have forgotten or never understood that they are Christians, to proclaim Christ and to make Him known, and to open heaven’s door to so many non-believers.“
Moved by Saint Eugene de Mazenod’s inspiration, more than 4,000 Oblate priests and brothers, supported by a large number of Oblate Lay Associates, continue to mission on every continent of the world. His charism lives on in them.
